Beware of El Isolator

Second tour d'Europe cet été en 2 ans.... moyenne honnorable pour un apprenti bourlingueur comme moi...
L'année dernière, le voyage s'était déroulé via interrail avec 3 amis, mais cette fois-ci voyager à 2 avec le matériel sur le dos , et devoir trouver des hébergements au jour le jour n'était pas concevable.
Donc voici en photo le troisième compagnon pour ce voyage ... le Renault Master...!!
Bon certes il est vide et il va falloir l' aménager, mais ceci rentrera dans le cadre d un nouvel article , avec peut-être une petite vidéo des travaux... ^^
130 000 KM, 6 ans et toutes ses dents.... le compagnon parfait pour ce voyage qui nous emmènera de France en Italie en un mois et demi.
1 mois et demi pour faire France-Italie, non ce camion n'est pas bridé à 20 KM mais simplement ce voyage n'est pas direct et passera par l' Autriche, la Hongrie, l' Ukraine et la Finlande... pour ne citer que les grands arrêts de ce tour d'Europe!

Second trip around Europe in 2 years this summer... Quite a good rythm for a novice traveler like me.
Last year, the trip was by train, using "interrail" with 3 friends, but this time being 2 people traveling with all the equipment on the back, and having to find hosting day by day was just not conceivable.
So here is a picture of the third fellow of the trip : The Renault Master !
Alright it's empty and still needs to be set up inside, but this will be the object of another article, with maybe some footage of the work done... ^^
130.000 Kms, 6 years old... The perfect mate for this trip that will take us from France to Italy in one month.
One month to go from France to Italy ? No, this van is not limited to 20kph, but this journey will simply not be quite direct, going through Austria, Hungary, Ukraine and Finland... Only to mention the major stops of this new European tour !

Premier tournage / First shooting : EMJ

2 années à réflechir, 6 mois de préparation et d' écriture, et maintenant tournage de la première séquence.
Premier tournage assez particulier, du fait qu'il se fait à domicile, à Paris, mais surtout qu'il se déroule lors de la convention organisée par mon ancienne association BC Concept, et que pour la première fois je ne fais parti ni de l'orga, ni de l'équipe de captation de l' évènement.
Cette séquence était consacrée au rapport image-performer que je veux développer dans mon film, et quoi de mieux que cette convention consacrée bien entendu au spinning , mais avec un accent très particulier mis sur la captation photo et vidéo.
De nombreuses conventions ont lieu en Europe chaque année, mais très peu (voir aucune) n'a de moyens de captation tels que "En mai, jongle ce qu'il te plait!"organisée par BCC.
Outre l' équipe de captation de la vidéo officielle de l'assoc' emmenée par Léo et son équipe d' "Orage numérique", le tournage d'un documentaire par Julien Delaweare dans le cadre d'un projet de son école de ciné (3IS), et mon documentaire, il fallait compter également sur la trentaine de photographes présents lors de la soirée Feu au Palais de tokyo le vendredi soir.
Beaucoup d'intervenants de mon documentaire étaient présents à ce rassemblement, mais je n'ai pas tenu à les interviewer car ils étaient déjà très sollicités par les autres équipes. Je ne voulais pas qu'ils se sentent agressés ou gênés par autant de caméras. Il me sera beaucoup plus facile et agréable de revoir ces personnes durant mon tour d'Europe cet été.
Peu de monde , mais que du beau monde à cette convention, et toujours aussi agréable de revoir, rencontrer voire même héberger ces personnes.

2 years thinking about it, 6 months of preparation and writing, and now comes the shooting of the first sequence.
Quite a special first shooting actually, as it is held "at home", in Paris, but mostly because it is taking place during the convention organized by my former association, BC Concept, and for the very first time I'm neither part of the organisation team, nor filming the event itself.
This first sequence was dedicated to the relation between Image and Performer, that I want to develop in the film. And what a great opportunity to do this in this convention that is of course dedicated to spinning, but with a very strong emphasis on photo and video recording.
Many conventions take place in Europe every year, but very few of them (if any) have the recording means of "En Mai jongle ce qu'il te plait !", organized by BCC.
In addition to the asociation's official video team led by Léo and his crew from "orage numérique" (Numeric storm), the filming of a documentary by Julien Delaweare for his cinema school project, and my own, we also had to count with the about thirty photographers who made it for the fire night at Palais de Tokyo on Friday.
Many participants to my documentary were here for this gathering, but I didn't wish to interview most of them as they were already very sought by the other filming teams. I definitely didn't want them to feel attacked or bothered by that much cameras, and it will anyway be far easier and nicer to meet those persons again during my European tour this summer.
Few people, but only the very best at this convention, and it is still so nice to see again, meet, or even host some of those people.

Avoir des cahiers remplis de notes, c'est un bon début...

Croquer des idées d'images intéressantes, c'est aussi un pas en avant...

Mais relier toutes ces données en une histoire cohérente, c'est une autre affaire.

Comment trouver le lien entre tous les thèmes abordés dans le documentaire, leur trouver une suite logique, et avoir le recul suffisant pour avoir une vision globale de la chose ?

Solution: Il vous suffit d'héberger un couple d'autrichiens à la maison!

C'est après de longues soirées à discuter , dessiner, brainstormer, refaire le monde du jonglage jusqu'à l' aube avec Sebastian Berger et Christiane, que le storyboard de Friendly Fires a commencé à prendre forme.

Having notebooks filled with notes is a good start ...

Sketching ideas of interesting images is also a step forward ...

But connecting all these data into a coherent story is another matter.

How to find the link between all the themes in the documentary, to find a logical sequence, and have enough distance to have a global vision of the thing?

Solution: Simply host an Austrian couple at home!

After long evenings talking, drawing, brainstorming, remaking the world of juggling until dawn with Sebastian Berger and Christiane, the storyboard of Friendly Fires started to take shape.

Friendly Fires a pour but de présenter la communauté du spinning , mais je ne voulais pas que le documentaire reste focalisé exclusivement sur les performers. D'autres personnes , et parfois même personnages, suivent cette communauté, dans un rôle plus extérieur, et leur travail fait aussi avancer ce milieu. Il y a bien entendu les organisateurs de conventions, qui permettent à tous les pratiquants de partager l'espace d'un week end ou plus, leur passion et leur technique .
Vidéaste dans l'âme, je ne pouvais pas passer à côté des photographes et vidéastes qui suivent certaines troupes afin de capter ces instants, de partager leur travail sur internet , et collaborent avec elles sur des projets graphiques.
Lors de la présentation de mon dossier à un producteur, ce rapport image/spinning a retenu son attention, et pour appuyer mon projet, il m'a été demandé de réaliser un reportage pouvant montrer l'esprit du docu. Avec l'aide de Nicolas Aubry (a.k.a. Morfire), Mafia Boy, Imakokode et Pierre Beauvillain, voici un petit avant goût de ce que sera "Friendly Fires".

Friendly Fires 's goal is to present the spinning community , but I did not want the documentary to focuse exclusively on the performers. Other people, and sometimes characters, follow this community, in a more external way, and their work is also advancing the movement. Among them, of course, are the organizers of conventions, which enable all practitioners to share their passion and technique on a weekend or more.
Videographer at heart, I could not miss out on photographers and videographers who follow troupes to capture these moments, share their work online, and collaborate with them on graphics projects.
When I presented my portfolio to a producer, the relation between image and spinning caught his attention, and in order to support my project, I was asked to produce a report that may show the spirit of the documentary. With the help of Nicolas Aubry (aka Morfire), Mafia Boy, Imakokode and Pierre Beauvillain, here's a little preview of what "Friendly Fires" will be.

Cook Your Brain ...

“Friendly Fires” est un projet perso soutenu notamment par le crew “cook your brain” qui regroupe des vidéastes et des photographes. Tous liés de près ou de loin à l'association de spinners Burn Crew Concept, nous avons commencé à nous rassembler à l'occasion de weekend monastique (Lan party) dédiées au travail visuel en lien avec le spinning. Le principe des ces lan parties à l'origine est de regrouper des fans de jeux en réseau ou en ligne, nuit et jour, pour une durée relativement indéterminée. Le concept a donc été détourné par nous autres passionnés d'image afin de travailler collectivement sur nos projets respectifs de vidéo ou de photo de feu.

“Friendly Fires” est donc un projet perso certes, mais qui n'aurait certainement pas vu le jour sans ces longues heures passées ensemble !

"Friendly Fires" is a personal project supported notably by the "cook your brain” crew which brings together filmmakers and photographers. All directly or indirectly related to the association of spinners Burn Crew Concept, we began to gather at Lan parties dedicated to visual work in connection with spinning. The original principle of lan parties is to bring together fans of online games or network gaming, night and day, for a relatively indeterminate period of time. The concept has been hijacked by the rest of us fans of image in order to work together on our respective projects, video or photo of fire.
"Friendly Fires" is a personal project of course, but certainly would not have been possible without the long hours spent together!
