On The Road again !!!

Pimp my ride ayant refusé le dossier de notre van, voici la transformation du Master Isolator by D.Menza.
Une semaine et demie de travaux plus tard ( pose de moquette, construction du lit, achat de hamacs , démontage de la galerie, etc...) le voila enfin prêt pour le voyage de cet été, et pour la première étape à Vienne chez les amis des Fenfire ...
Après de nombreux coups de stress, par exemple, à 2 jours du départ, toujours aucune carte grise, l'autoradio impossible à faire marcher (normal avec tous les câbles coupés !! ), etc... Tout est rentré dans l'ordre finalement avec la réception de la carte grise la veille du départ, tout comme la réparation de l'autoradio (un grand merci à Vinvent pour son aide ).
Donc nous voilà partis avec Bastien et El Isolator, vendredi 9 juillet à 22h30, de chez mes parents, direction l'Autriche, avec IAM en fond sonore pour entammer le trajet.
Après 10h de route , 50 Km de travaux à 60KM/h, et 5h de sommeil sur aire d'autoroute en Allemagne dans un van transformé en four (et oui un systeme de ventilation aurait été intéressant à installer ), nous voici chez les Fenfire....

As Pimp My Ride refused our application for the van, here is the transformation of the Master Isolator by D. Menza.
After a week and a half's work (carpet laying, construction of the bed, buying a hammock, removing the roofrack, etc ...) here it is, ready for our sumer trip, and for the first stop in Vienna at our Fenfire friends' ...
After many stress shots, such as: 2 days from departure still having no registration card, the car radio not working (not a surprise with all the cables cut!), etc. ... everything is finally back in order with the receipt of the registration card the day before departure, as well as the repairing of the radio (a big thank you to Vinvent for his help).
So here we go with Bastien and El Isolator on Friday, July 9, 22.30, from my parent's, and towards Austria with IAM in the background to get on with the trip.
After a 10 hour drive, 50 km of roadworks at 60 km per hour and 5 hours sleep on a highway rest area in Germany in a van turned into an oven (yes, a ventilation system would have been interesting to install), here we finally are at the Fenfire's ....

Kiev Fire Festival

LE festival feu par excellence...!

Hébergement et workshops au milieu d'une forêt, amphithéâtre en plein centre de Kiev avec 2500 spectateurs par soir, que demander de plus?

Une baignade dans la Dniepr (avec passing poïs et Météor^^), un soleil de plomb et des spectacles d'une qualité impressionnante bien entendu !!

Déjà conquis par ce festival l'année dernière, l'édition 2010 n'a fait que confirmer la qualité d'organisation et de performance de ce festival.

LE festival feu par excellence mais attention!! il faut être préparé pour survivre à cette expérience. Voici les 11 conseils pour préparer au mieux votre voyage là-bas...

1) Attention au terrorisme à l'eau minérale, n'essayez pas d'ouvrir une bouteille sans qu'elle vous explose dans les mains ! Testé et approuvé jusqu'à l' aéroport !!

2) Prenez garde aux français qui chantent "le petit bonhomme en mousse " sur la terrasse le samedi soir après de très beaux chants ukrainien (et là je rigole pas).

3)Préparez vous à la sortie de l'aéroport, et à vous faire sauter dessus par deux mecs. Un certain "Saruman" et Velezan qui font goûter les bières locales !! (Merci les mecs^^)

4) Soyez conscient qu' entendre dans la même soirée du Flamenco, du Dimmu Borgir, du classique, du Mickael jackson etc... et bien ça déchire !!

5) N'ayez pas peur du douanier de l' aéroport qui connait l' événement et qui est content de voir des gens venir de si loin pour participer au festival.

6) Il existe des pigeons avec tous leurs membres!! (les parisiens comprendront!)

7) Préparez vous à voir de magnifiques spectacles totalement différents, aussi bien solo qu'en groupe, et à découvrir des agrès nouveaux ( par exemple: cube stroboscopique)

8) Après les jeans, les autographes se signent sur les robes!

9) Attention à ne pas devenir addict au café pour écrire cet article entre 2h30 et 5h du matin, dehors sur un banc de l' aéroport de Kiev par 26°C.

10) Préparez vous à avoir le même sourire bloqué que l' année précédente en rentrant chez vous et à prévoir votre premier week end de juin de l'année prochaine pour revenir.

11e et dernier point : dire un énorme Merci et Bravo à Nushka, Kupava et tous les orgas du KFF pour ce festoche.

Kiev Fire Festival

THE fire festival par excellence ...!

Accommodation and workshops in the middle of a forest, an amphitheatre in downtown Kiev with 2,500 spectators a night, what more?

A dip in the Dnieper (with poï passing and Meteor ^ ^), a blazing sun and shows of an impressive quality of course!

Already won over to this festival last year, the 2010 edition has only confirmed the quality of organization and performance of this festival.

THE Fire festival par excellence but beware! You must be prepared to survive the experience. Here are 11 tips to prepare your trip there ...

1) Beware of mineral water terrorism, do not attempt to open a bottle without it exploding in your hands! Tested and approved till the airport!

2) Beware of Frenchmen singing "Le petit bonhomme en moussse" on the terrace on a Saturday evening, after some beautiful Ukrainian songs (I'm not joking here).

3) Be prepared to exit the airport and be jumped over by two guys. A certain "Saruman" and Velezan who make you taste the local beers! (Thanks guys ^ ^)

4) Be aware that hearing in the same evening some flamenco, Dimmu Borgir, classical music, Michael Jackson etc. ... well, it rocks!

5) Don't be afraid of the custom officer at the airport who knows the event and is happy to see people come from so far to participate in the festival.

6) There are pigeons with all their limbs! (the Parisians will understand!)

7) Prepare yourself to see very different fantastic shows, both solo and in groups, and to discover new objects to juggle with (eg stroboscopic cube).

8) After jeans, the autographs are signed on the dresses!

9) Be careful not to become addicted to coffee enough to write this article between 2:30 and 5 am, on a bench outside the airport in Kiev in 26 ° C.

10) Be prepared to have the same fixed smile than last year when you go home, and plan your first weekend in June next year to return.

Beware of El Isolator

Second tour d'Europe cet été en 2 ans.... moyenne honnorable pour un apprenti bourlingueur comme moi...
L'année dernière, le voyage s'était déroulé via interrail avec 3 amis, mais cette fois-ci voyager à 2 avec le matériel sur le dos , et devoir trouver des hébergements au jour le jour n'était pas concevable.
Donc voici en photo le troisième compagnon pour ce voyage ... le Renault Master...!!
Bon certes il est vide et il va falloir l' aménager, mais ceci rentrera dans le cadre d un nouvel article , avec peut-être une petite vidéo des travaux... ^^
130 000 KM, 6 ans et toutes ses dents.... le compagnon parfait pour ce voyage qui nous emmènera de France en Italie en un mois et demi.
1 mois et demi pour faire France-Italie, non ce camion n'est pas bridé à 20 KM mais simplement ce voyage n'est pas direct et passera par l' Autriche, la Hongrie, l' Ukraine et la Finlande... pour ne citer que les grands arrêts de ce tour d'Europe!

Second trip around Europe in 2 years this summer... Quite a good rythm for a novice traveler like me.
Last year, the trip was by train, using "interrail" with 3 friends, but this time being 2 people traveling with all the equipment on the back, and having to find hosting day by day was just not conceivable.
So here is a picture of the third fellow of the trip : The Renault Master !
Alright it's empty and still needs to be set up inside, but this will be the object of another article, with maybe some footage of the work done... ^^
130.000 Kms, 6 years old... The perfect mate for this trip that will take us from France to Italy in one month.
One month to go from France to Italy ? No, this van is not limited to 20kph, but this journey will simply not be quite direct, going through Austria, Hungary, Ukraine and Finland... Only to mention the major stops of this new European tour !

Premier tournage / First shooting : EMJ

2 années à réflechir, 6 mois de préparation et d' écriture, et maintenant tournage de la première séquence.
Premier tournage assez particulier, du fait qu'il se fait à domicile, à Paris, mais surtout qu'il se déroule lors de la convention organisée par mon ancienne association BC Concept, et que pour la première fois je ne fais parti ni de l'orga, ni de l'équipe de captation de l' évènement.
Cette séquence était consacrée au rapport image-performer que je veux développer dans mon film, et quoi de mieux que cette convention consacrée bien entendu au spinning , mais avec un accent très particulier mis sur la captation photo et vidéo.
De nombreuses conventions ont lieu en Europe chaque année, mais très peu (voir aucune) n'a de moyens de captation tels que "En mai, jongle ce qu'il te plait!"organisée par BCC.
Outre l' équipe de captation de la vidéo officielle de l'assoc' emmenée par Léo et son équipe d' "Orage numérique", le tournage d'un documentaire par Julien Delaweare dans le cadre d'un projet de son école de ciné (3IS), et mon documentaire, il fallait compter également sur la trentaine de photographes présents lors de la soirée Feu au Palais de tokyo le vendredi soir.
Beaucoup d'intervenants de mon documentaire étaient présents à ce rassemblement, mais je n'ai pas tenu à les interviewer car ils étaient déjà très sollicités par les autres équipes. Je ne voulais pas qu'ils se sentent agressés ou gênés par autant de caméras. Il me sera beaucoup plus facile et agréable de revoir ces personnes durant mon tour d'Europe cet été.
Peu de monde , mais que du beau monde à cette convention, et toujours aussi agréable de revoir, rencontrer voire même héberger ces personnes.

2 years thinking about it, 6 months of preparation and writing, and now comes the shooting of the first sequence.
Quite a special first shooting actually, as it is held "at home", in Paris, but mostly because it is taking place during the convention organized by my former association, BC Concept, and for the very first time I'm neither part of the organisation team, nor filming the event itself.
This first sequence was dedicated to the relation between Image and Performer, that I want to develop in the film. And what a great opportunity to do this in this convention that is of course dedicated to spinning, but with a very strong emphasis on photo and video recording.
Many conventions take place in Europe every year, but very few of them (if any) have the recording means of "En Mai jongle ce qu'il te plait !", organized by BCC.
In addition to the asociation's official video team led by Léo and his crew from "orage numérique" (Numeric storm), the filming of a documentary by Julien Delaweare for his cinema school project, and my own, we also had to count with the about thirty photographers who made it for the fire night at Palais de Tokyo on Friday.
Many participants to my documentary were here for this gathering, but I didn't wish to interview most of them as they were already very sought by the other filming teams. I definitely didn't want them to feel attacked or bothered by that much cameras, and it will anyway be far easier and nicer to meet those persons again during my European tour this summer.
Few people, but only the very best at this convention, and it is still so nice to see again, meet, or even host some of those people.

Avoir des cahiers remplis de notes, c'est un bon début...

Croquer des idées d'images intéressantes, c'est aussi un pas en avant...

Mais relier toutes ces données en une histoire cohérente, c'est une autre affaire.

Comment trouver le lien entre tous les thèmes abordés dans le documentaire, leur trouver une suite logique, et avoir le recul suffisant pour avoir une vision globale de la chose ?

Solution: Il vous suffit d'héberger un couple d'autrichiens à la maison!

C'est après de longues soirées à discuter , dessiner, brainstormer, refaire le monde du jonglage jusqu'à l' aube avec Sebastian Berger et Christiane, que le storyboard de Friendly Fires a commencé à prendre forme.

Having notebooks filled with notes is a good start ...

Sketching ideas of interesting images is also a step forward ...

But connecting all these data into a coherent story is another matter.

How to find the link between all the themes in the documentary, to find a logical sequence, and have enough distance to have a global vision of the thing?

Solution: Simply host an Austrian couple at home!

After long evenings talking, drawing, brainstorming, remaking the world of juggling until dawn with Sebastian Berger and Christiane, the storyboard of Friendly Fires started to take shape.
